3 Vitiligo Associations in Gauteng ( Love Authentic, Beautiligos & Beyond Vitiligo) have joined forces to bring us all together on our special day 25 June 2022 WORLD VITILIGO DAY. 
Please join us for a 5km fun trail walk in nature and a fun filled day for the family.

Love Authentic attended a meet-up on the 29 June in the Vaal area withe the Beautiligo Foundation.  It was a great day meeting these amazing bunch of beautiful ladies and gent. 
Ma Audrey. Berlina, Gill, Dimpho, Sheela, Hlobi and Ndumi you all are incredibly inspirational. This meet-up made us realise that there's a lot more people living happily with vitiligo. This is a huge move in a positive direction.

To our LOVEauthentic family, let's all help this community.

Let me begin with apologising for being so quiet.  I've been busy  with the Incubator Program at Maket Photo Workshop since July 2017. It's been a phenomenal opportunity.  These months were tough, testing, educating and just all round out of this world. Its been like nothing i could ever have imagines. I'll share more about the experience in my next post. The final objective of the program was to exhibit or publish. Since I've always wanted to exhibit in  a gallery, i chose the EXHIBITION.

Wednesday, 9 Aug 2017 ... Our beautiful #teamloveauthentic ladies ran the awesome Totalsport Womens Day Race together on Womens Day. It was a chilly and icy morning, but the vibrance of the pink surroundings and friendly faces of the thousands of ladies and supporting gentlemen made the cold feel like a tiny drawback. It was  a super fun morning indeed. Such a refreshing experience. Well done ladies on successfully completing the 10km race through our historic Johannesburg.

LOVEauthentic together with Strictly Signs hosted a colour point along the route of the Benoni Colourful Run. We gathered a team to assist on the day, our awesome volunteers helped with the arrangements and were up bright and early to make this day an absolute success. 

The race started at 0800 so our volunteers, needed to be in Benoni by 0645. Everyone rose bright and early, Vanisha drove from the South and Matilda & her cutiepies Ubered just to get to us. I though this was so super special.

We weren't really sure what to expect at this event, all we knew was that we were there to represent LOVEauthentic, increase our visibility and ultimately assist in raising awareness for Vitiligo.  

What was suppose to be work, turned out to be a colourful explosion of fun. The runners were so driven to finish successfully, families played and laughed, everyone was playful, happy and delightfully energised. We enjoyed every minute of showering  colour all over the runners and when runners were few and far between, we turned on each other.  We experience that shear exhilaration of just being kids for a day.  

Life is about moments, and this was one of those, felt really good to just enjoy the people (runners, fellow volunteers and the organising committee), place and energy around us. 

The Benoni Colourful Run, was host by the Vikings Cycling Club & Benoni Harriers in support of Kid Haven. Well done to all the sponsors and volunteers who made this event possible. To a job well done,

LOVEauthentic was part of the 2017 Dermatology Congress, hosted in Pretoria from the 24 - 27 Aug 2017 .  
The highlight of the Congress for us was the :

• Vitiligo Updates Session presented by Vitiligo Society of South Africa (VSSA) & South African Society of Dermatologic Surgery (SASDS) &
  • ​​In our continuous effort to raise  awareness of the Vitiligo, it's our strategy to surround ourselves with specialists that conduct and publish researched articles on the subject. The session featured local and international Dermatological experts. They've all dedicated their time and efforts to understand, research and assist people living with Vitiligo. Today we better better understand the condition. Realising that there's a vast number of individuals  in the world that share our common goal,  is indeed comforting.
• Art Exhibition hosted by Adcock Ingram, where we exhibited our Love the Authentic you Collection. Featuring of Vitiligo Stars​
  • This great opportunity presented itself early this year. We collaborated with Vitiligo Society South Africa & Adcock Ingram,  to exhibit our work at the Dermatology Congress together with other artist. This was a huge movement in the right direction for Loveauthentic. Our exposure and work is finally reaching the avenues we hoped to reach. Thanks to all our vitiligo stars, supporters and our sponsors. You all have made this possible. Thank you to VSSA Chairperson, Dr Raboobee, for the invite. 

 

• Lessons Learnt 
  • We realised that Vitiligo awareness is something that's done within a family like society. People who are personally affected by vitiligo in some way are the ones that do the best work. Like kinds gather together to create a movement of change.
  • Its equally emotional and difficult for doctors to deal with patients with Vitiligo, as it is for us. This forum provided doctors with advise on how to effectively deal with Vitiligo patients and their families. This aspect is possible always overlooked. So if it seems that your doctor may be insensitive, if could relate back to them not knowing how to support you emotionally. 
  • Research and development is a continuous process. We're lucky to have these dedicated professionals who've chosen to assist all of us.
  • We're unfortunately not in a position to share the content of the presentations as they are the intellectual property of the specialist. As new publications are made available by VSSA and SASDA, we'll share them on our page as well.   Your local Dermatologist will also be able to share the new advancements.

It was a beautiful day indeed.

We walked a 4km journey together, each step was symbolic of our movement towards a brighter future and a simultaneously a movement away from the struggles of our past. 
We walked together in support of everyone living with vitiligo. 
We walked together for self love and self appreciation. 

Meet all these amazing people who took time out of their day to support us in celebrating World Vitiligo Day.  As the clock moved closer to 11am,  people from near and far kept flowing in, it was the most delightful sight. We thank each and everyone of you for being there. We're grateful for your support.
